The population of Montenegro in the middle of 1998 was 650 500 people. The number of births in 1998 was 9250 while the number of mortalities for the same year was 5470, so that the natural population growth for that year was 3780. The number of inhabitants per square kilometre is 44.5. Most households have 3 or 4 members, with an average size of 3.80.
