The accommodation capacity of the tourist industry is 150 000 beds, of which 37 000 are in primary accommodations (hotels, motels, inns, tourist villages). The disproportionate physical distribution of accommodation means that many very attractive, ecological and other sought after tourist potential are located on the margins of development and represent a basis for foreign investment.

The country’s arable land and water supply are well protected from industrial pollution and allow the production of healthy and organic food, especially meat (beef, lamb, goat, veal and baby beef), milk and milk products, honey, fish, vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and others), fruits (plums, apples, grapes, citrus fruits and olives) and top quality wines (Vranac, Krstac and others), followed by naturally pure water measured using the strictest global standards.

Over the past 50 years, industry carried the economic development of Montenegro. During this period, energetic, metal (steel and aluminium) and road infrastructure were the basis of development. Industrial capacity was modelled for the needs of the entire Former Yugoslavia, so that 90% of the goods produced were sold outside of Montenegro.

The population of Montenegro in the middle of 1998 was 650 500 people. The number of births in 1998 was 9250 while the number of mortalities for the same year was 5470, so that the natural population growth for that year was 3780. The number of inhabitants per square kilometre is 44.5. Most households have 3 or 4 members, with an average size of 3.80.
