The SDC has a total of 3223.7 km of modern roads, of which 772.52 km are state roads, 754.2 km are regional roads, and 1697.06 km are local roads, not including city networks. In July 2002 construction began on the 29.7 km section of the future highway between Zagreb and Split, Prgomet-Dugopolje, which should be completed by the end of 2004.
