The number of registered automobiles in 1999 was 74 480, which made up 3% of the national average. The region has a total of 50 986 km of roads, of which 457 km are motorways (0.9% of the total roads in the region), 795 km are state roads, 7157 km are regional roads, and 42 577 km are local roads. During 2002 there were 19 012 automobile accidents with an average fatality rate of 2.9%, which is above the national average.

Tourism

The total costal length of the region is 158.9 km, of which 102.4 km are beaches for swimming, and 56.5 km is not favourable for swimming. Tourism is one of the most important economic activities and sources of employment for the region of Veneto. During 2003, 11 767 576 tourists visited the region, of which 7 155 425, or 61%, were foreigners.
