The number of registered automobiles in 2001 was 168 710, which made up 0.5% of the national average. The region has a total of 2839 km of roads, of which 36 km are motorways, 530 km are state roads, 414 km are regional roads, and 1859 km are local roads.

Tourism is one of the most important economic activities and sources of employment in the region of Molise. During 2002, 180 237 tourists visited Molise, of which 16 987, or 9.4%, were foreigners. In that same year, 717 039 overnight stays were recorded, of which 73 875, or 10,3%, were those of foreign tourists.
